Retrospektive – 20 Jahre Prima Center Berlin

In 20 Jahren kann viel Kunst geschehen: Abstrakt bis figurativ, als künstlerische Auseinandersetzung mit Politik oder als Kunst um der Kunst willen, mal konzept-lastiges Schwergewicht, mal leichtfüßig scherzhaft. Aber auch ein Bruchteil davon kann zeigen, was das Prima Center war, für Publikum und Kunstschaffende, für die Kolonie Wedding und den Kiez, für Freunde und Familie und natürlich für Jovan Balov selbst. Das Center seines Schaffens als Kurator wird von dieser Ausstellung beleuchtet.

Wir werfen einen Blick zurück, was das Prima Center war und für wen werden wollte, gebrochen durch ein Kaleidoskop von Kunst und anderen Fundstücken aus dem Archiv. Mit dabei sind Urgesteine wie Miro Masin, Slavco Sokolovski, Vlatko Čerić (Bild) und Fotos von Doroti Packova und Irina Arsova, sowie überraschende Ausflüge ins Digitale.

A lot of art can happen in twenty years: from abstract to figurative, as an artistic engagement with politics or as art for art’s sake, sometimes concept-heavy and profound, sometimes light-footed and playful. Yet even a fraction of that can show what the Prima Center has been, for its audience and artists, for the Kolonie Wedding and the neighborhood, for friends and family, and of course for Jovan Balov himself. This exhibition sheds light on the center of his curatorial work.

We take a look back at what the Prima Center was, and whom it aimed to be for, refracted through a kaleidoscope of art and other finds from the archive. Featuring long-standing contributors such as Miro Masin, Slavco Sokolovski, Vlatko Čerić (image) and photographs by Doroti Packova and Irina Arsova, along with surprising digital excursions.
